Optimal Sexual Experiences Couples Therapy Group

Would you and your partner like to improve your sex life?

Next Group Dates:

This group is designed for couples with low to no sexual desire or frequency, and/or desire discrepancy (in which one partner is more interested in sex than the other) who are interested in enhancing their sexual relationship and ready to embark on a journey to enhance their sexual experiences and relationships. 

The content of the group is based on the work of the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team of the University of Ottawa, including elements and facilitating factors of optimal sexual experiences as well as research on group couples therapy. The groups are part of a research project studying the effectiveness of group therapy in enhancing sexual relationships. Your participation in the research project (which is optional) consists of completing questionnaires at multiple time points.

Your commitment:

  • 16 hours over a period of 8 weeks

  • 4 session Initial assessment will help you to determine whether these groups are right for you

  • Attendance in this group requires a commitment to homeplay with your partner

  • You are free to withdraw from the research and/or the groups at any time

Cost:

  • $250 per couple per group session, plus intake sessions (Total = $3000)

  • May be covered by your health insurance plan. Please check with your individual provider to verify coverage

Group Therapists

  • Philip Jai Johnson, Ph.D., C.Psych

    is a highly trained relationship and sex therapist, with areas of specialty including discrepant/ mismatched sexual desire, infidelity/betrayal, compulsive sexual behaviour, anxiety during sex, and LGBTQ+ mental health. He obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from McGill University and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute for Sexual and Gender Health at the University of Minnesota, and the LGBT Health Initiative at Columbia University in New York City. He also works with individuals more broadly in the areas of anxiety, depression, grief, and self-worth. His therapeutic style incorporates elements of cognitive behavioural therapy and attachment, as well as a strengths-based approach that recognizes that we have within ourselves the resources we need to make changes that are both empowered and meaningful.

  • Morag Yule, Ph.D., C.Psych

    is a registered psychologist who specializes in sex therapy. Dr. Yule provides empirically supported psychological services for a broad range of sexual issues. She has extensive training and experience treating sexual dysfunction, including problems with sexual desire, difficulty experiencing sexual arousal and orgasm, and sexual pain. She also works with those struggling with hypersexuality/out of control sexual behavior, navigating atypical/unique sexual interests, and moving past difficult sexual experiences and sexual trauma. She works with both individuals and couples and people of all genders and sexual orientations. Dr. Yule's therapeutic approach draws on Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), mindfulness and somatic-based therapies, acceptance-based interventions, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). Her warm, genuine, and open approach to therapy helps develop a strong client/therapist relationship and she works collaboratively to identify core issues that will result in meaningful and lasting change. Dr. Yule is the founder and director of Ontario Sex Therapy, a private psychology practice in Toronto.
